Vessels

Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.” But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.

2 Timothy 2:19-21
Consider these things—a crystal pitcher, a teapot, a garden hose, a drain pipe—what do they have in common? Each one is a container and not meant for storage but for transferring. Whatever passes through them leaves a deposit.

We are vessels—containers. What we take into our spirit and give out to others is our choice. Will we be vessels of honor—used to transfer God's peace and joy, used to share His goodness and the truth of His Word?

That which we allow to flow through us will leave a deposit on us. If we think on things that are negative and produce fear or anger or resentment—that is what will flow through us. If our mind is filled with the Word of God and His wonderful promises—that is what will flow through us. What comes out of a “vessel” is what is inside.

As believers we should seek to be vessels that only have the residue of God’s Word and His truths in our lives. As we do we are showing that we long to be useful to God by being vessels of honor fit for every good work, which He has in store for furthering of the Kingdom.
