The Importants Of Examining Your Life

The ancient philosopher Socrates proclaimed, "The unexamined life is not worth living." Thousands of years later, his words remain true. Life cannot be worthwhile without introspection and personal growth.

As Christians, we should examine our lives in light of God's Word.

We should allow the Words perfect truth to guide and shape us to be more Christ-like. We need to continuously evaluate our lives because as Christians we should long to mature in God. So, slow down for a moment and take some time to examine your own life and allow God to reveal what He desires to change in you as you become more Christ-like.

Not only will this time of self-examination improve our relationship with God, but it will also improve our personality. As General Douglas MacArthur once said: "Life is a lively process of becoming… if you are [always] thinking the same thoughts… having the same predictable reactions, rigor mortis of the personality has set in."

Are you suffering from rigor mortis… perhaps it's time to take inventory of what is inside your own heart.

As we examine our lives our aim should be that we are devoted to God in both body and spirit—concerned about the affairs of God. One of the primary ways to show concern for God's affairs is by fixing our mind on Him, which is a result of living by God's Holy Spirit. This is clearly seen in Romans 8:5:

For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.
